The Cabin

Where is Cabines Niksen located and how far is it from Montreal?
Located in Saint-Adolphe-d’Howard, in the Laurentians, just 1 hour from Montreal.
How many people can stay at the cabin?
The cabin is very comfortable and designed for two people. A maximum of four people is allowed at all times if you are receiving guests.
Is it a quiet place and are there neighbors nearby?
Yes, there are neighbors in the area. However, the cabin offers a very peaceful environment, and our visitors often mention calm, tranquility, and relaxation as highlights of their stay.
Who is the cabin for?
Whether it’s two people, a solo guest, with or without a dog, anyone who wants to be in nature, enjoy activities, the lake and the view, relax in the spa under the stars, and recharge. That’s Niksen!
How many bedrooms are there, what size is the bed, and is there a sofa bed?
There is one bedroom on the garden level with a Queen bed. There is a sofa bed on the main floor. All bedding is provided.
Is the cabin air-conditioned?
Yes, there is a heat pump on the garden level in the bedroom. A portable AC unit is also installed on the main floor during summer to enhance comfort.
Is there an outdoor fire pit and is firewood provided?
Yes, there is a wood-burning outdoor fire pit accessible year-round. Boxes of firewood (about 10 logs, kindling, and paper) are available for $20 + tax each. Payable at booking, before the stay, or on-site. Lighters and matches are available in the kitchen drawer. There is also an electric fireplace inside the cabin on the main floor.
Is the water potable?
Yes, the cabin uses a potable water treatment system.
Is there a screened gazebo?
Yes, there is a gazebo equipped with two small tables and four chairs. A small fridge is available during summer. The gazebo is protected with mosquito netting. Enjoy sunset dinners by the lake.
Is there a terrace overlooking the lake?
Yes, there is a large terrace offering a relaxing view of the lake and nature. Enjoy morning coffee with birdsong or an evening drink at sunset. There is a sofa in summer and chairs in winter.
Is there a charging outlet for an electric car?
Yes, we offer a NEMA 1450 outlet. You must bring your mobile charger (25 ft cable).
Are there stairs?
Yes, there are stairs both outside and inside the cabin. The cabin is not suitable for reduced mobility.
Is there a washer and dryer?
Yes, both are available. We provide Pure brand laundry detergent and dryer sheets.
Is there an iron and ironing board?
Yes, both are available.
Are there luggage racks and clothing racks?
There are two luggage racks, a clothing rack with hangers, and two drawers under the bed available for your clothes.

Kitchen

Is the kitchen fully equipped?
Yes. There is a fridge, stove with oven, microwave, full dishware, cookware, utensils, and many kitchen accessories.
Are there coffee machines and is coffee provided?
We have 3 types of coffee makers: a Nespresso Original machine (2 capsules per night included), a drip coffee maker, and a stovetop Italian coffee maker with enough coffee for the stay.
Is tea and herbal tea provided?
Yes, we offer 2 types of tea and 1 type of herbal tea with the necessary accessories.
Is there an outdoor BBQ with propane included?
Yes, there is a BBQ on the terrace with propane included. BBQ tools such as spatula and tongs are also provided.
Are spices, salt, pepper, sugar, oil, and vinegar available?
Yes: salt, pepper, organic sugar, several spices (Montreal steak spice, Italian blend, herbes de Provence, paprika, cayenne pepper, crushed chilies, and more), extra virgin olive oil, sesame oil, balsamic vinegar, and white vinegar.
Is there a toaster, electric kettle, blender, hand mixer, and fondue set?
Yes. The fondue set is electric and includes forks.
Are paper towels provided?
Yes, one roll on the counter and one new roll under the sink.
Is dish soap and dishwashing accessories provided?
Yes, Pure brand dish soap and all accessories for washing and drying dishes. A drying tray is also provided.
Is hand soap provided?
Yes, Oneka brand hand soap. There is a pump at the kitchen sink and another at the bathroom sink.
Are there bins for trash, compost, and recycling?
Yes, trash and recycling bins are under the sink. A compost container is on the counter. They must be emptied outside: black bin = trash, brown bin = compost, green bin = recycling. Several trash bags are provided.

Bathroom

Are towels included?
Yes, we provide 4 large, 2 medium, and 2 small towels, plus a hand towel.
Is toilet paper and tissues provided?
Yes, enough for the entire stay.
Is shower gel, shampoo, conditioner, and body lotion provided?
Yes, we proudly offer Oneka body care products (a Quebec company): shower gel, shampoo, conditioner, and body lotion. There is also hand soap at the sink.
Is there a hair dryer?
Yes, on the bathroom shelf.
Is there a first aid kit?
Yes, on the bathroom shelf.

Dogs

Are dogs and cats allowed, and are there fees?
Yes, we are dog-friendly. Cats are also accepted with approval. Maximum of 2 dogs. There is a $50 fee per stay. We provide 2 bowls, 1 large and 1 small cushion, paw towels, and toys.
Are large dogs accepted?
Yes, we love large dogs. Fun fact: large dogs often cause fewer issues than small ones!
Is the property fenced?
No, the property is not fenced. Dogs should be kept on a leash. A long tether is available to give your dog more freedom. For off‑leash hiking, our favorite is Sniffspot St‑Adolphe.
Is there a retractable gate on the terrace?
Yes, very practical for your dog.
Can dogs go in the lake, and are flotation vests available?
Yes, the water is swimmable for humans and dogs. We provide two sizes of dog life jackets: small and medium/large.
Can pets be left alone in the cabin?
We ask that your dog or cat never be left alone in the cabin for safety, to avoid damage, and out of respect for neighbors.
Is there a veterinarian nearby?
Yes, in Saint‑Sauveur and Sainte‑Agathe‑des‑Monts.
Where can you hike with a dog?
Several trails are available in the region. Our favorite is Sniffspot St‑Adolphe for off‑leash hiking alone with your dog. Avalanche Culture Plein Air also has trails (dogs must be leashed and you are not alone).

Spa

Is the spa private?
Yes, the spa is private. It is a Nordic Spa.
Is the spa open year-round?
Yes, it operates in all four seasons.
What is the spa temperature?
Between 38°C (100°F) and 39°C (102°F).
Are there jets?
No water jets, as it is a Nordic Spa. There is a water return that creates a gentle flow.

Activities & the Lake

What can you do in each season?
Many activities year-round: swimming, kayaks, paddleboard, pedal boat, hiking, snowshoeing (2 pairs included), cross‑country skiing. Nearby: biking, downhill skiing, fat biking, and more. A complete guide is sent 14 days before your stay. Plenty to enjoy at the cabin and throughout the Saint‑Sauveur Valley.
Where can you hike?
Several trails in Saint‑Adolphe‑d’Howard and Morin‑Heights. Our favorite is Sniffspot St‑Adolphe with dogs.
When is the best time to see fall colors?
Late September and early fall.
Can you swim?
Yes, swimming is possible in the lake.
Is the dock private?
Yes, the dock is on our property and is private.
Is the lake deep?
About 30 feet deep in the middle. Life jackets are available.
Is there a beach?

Internet, TV & Audio

Is the WiFi fast?
We have fiberoptic internet, very stable. Perfect for streaming or video calls — great for remote work.
Is there a workstation for remote work?
Yes, a desk with chair and monitor (HDMI cable included).
Is the TV smart, and is Netflix included?
Yes, Netflix is included. There are also free channels via Google TV.
Is there an audio system with CD and Bluetooth?
Yes, on the electric fireplace. Several CDs are available.

Winter

Are the roads plowed?
The road to the cabin is gravel and maintained by the municipality. It is plowed and serviced. Winter tires are required in Quebec.
Is the parking area plowed?
Yes, our snow removal service comes frequently.
Is the outdoor fire pit and spa cleared of snow?
Yes, both are accessible and cleared upon your arrival.
Is there a lot of snow in winter?
Yes! Saint-Adolphe-d’Howard is known for its heavy snowfall.

Booking

What is the minimum stay?
Low season: 2 nights minimum. High season and holidays: 3 nights minimum.
What are check-in and checkout times? Is check-in autonomous?
Check-in at 4:00 PM, checkout at noon. This allows us time to clean and prepare the cabin. Early arrival or late departure is not possible except in rare cases. Check-in is autonomous with a smart lock code sent 48 hours before your stay.
What is the deposit amount?
50% due at booking. Balance due 30 days before arrival.
What are the cancellation policies?
100% refund if canceled 30+ days before arrival.
50% refund if canceled 14+ days before arrival.
0% refund if canceled less than 14 days before arrival.

When is the balance due?
30 days before your stay.
Is there a security deposit?
Yes, $500, released within 7 days after departure following inspection.
What payment methods are accepted?
Credit card.
Can a reservation be modified?
If the stay is within 30 days, modifications are not possible except in rare cases.
If more than 30 days away, modifications are possible without fees.
Can you arrive earlier or leave later?
Not possible except in rare cases.
How do you receive arrival instructions?
48 hours before your stay, you will receive an email with all instructions: door code, WiFi, directions, cabin rules. Please read everything carefully.
